JOIN A
UNIQUE PROJECT
FOR PEACE

June 2010

This year’s Negev Gala will go towards a unique project. The Alexander River is a polluted cross-border river which flows down from the Samarian hills on the Palestinian side to its estuary at the Mediterranean Sea in Emek Hefer on the Israeli side. The Alexander River Restoration Administration, in which the JNF plays a leading role, is the only current example of its kind involving cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians on environmental issues, with results which are visible on the ground.

Who is 11th Place

and super happy

about that?

We are! For a bunch of misfit, out-of-shape paper pushers – 11th place is a awesome place to be amongst 38 teams – many seasoned rowers. The proceeds of this years festival got to HSC Foundation – and we are super happy about that too.

ENFIELD & WIZENTY ANNOUNCES FICTION CONTEST

July 2009

This year Enfield & Wizenty (an imprint of Great Plains Publications) launches a fiction contest to celebrate our own survival, as we go into our third season as a national fiction imprint of Great Plains Publications. For this champagne-soaked third year, Enfield & Wizenty is offering a $5,000 advance for the most outstanding submission of literary fiction that we receive. We will be reading fiction submissions (novels and collections of short stories) from now until December 2009. Short story collections should have appeared extensively in Canadian literary magazines.

For information on our first two seasons click on the Enfield & Wizenty tab above; please note that we’re not interested in genre novels–crime, science fiction, romance etc. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but do let us know.

DEADLINE: Dec. 1, 2009.

No Dilly Dallying

July 26, 2009

We didn’t mention our Dragon Boat participation in 2008, because, well, we really did very badly. Very badly. But for 2009, the Relish Design Studio dragon boat team “In a Pickle” made a comeback - placing 15th overall out of 52 teams participating in this weekends River City Dragon Boat Festival. The purpose of the festival is to promote the sport of paddling and support a worth while charitable cause. In 2009, pledge proceeds will be dedicated to the Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation and Social Enterprise programs at FortWhyte Alive.

A Fresh Approach

February 2009

Betsy Hiebert has taken to a fresh approach to your healthcare with a book designed to help record medical information and provide seniors some valuable resources. Trying to remember everything can seem overwhelming. Keeping information in one place gives seniors and their families a quick and easy reference tool when they need it. Betsy’s company, My Care Necessities looked to Relish for help developing her brand – which included website, logo design, advertising, display and book design. Betsy’s book has been getting a lot of press  she was even onBig Breakfast on City TV a few weeks ago. A little brand can go a long way!

Betsy has applied to be on CBC TV’s Dragon’s Den with her Personal Healthcare Journal for the fall season. Check out their site – sign up and vote for Betsy!

Slice & Dice

March 2008

An excerpt from an interview with W.P. KINSELLA, author of Shoeless Joe and long-time judge for the Chapters-Amazon.ca/Books in Canada First Novel Award:

BCBookWorld: If you were writing a first novel today, what small press would you send it to?

W.P. Kinsella: I would go with Great Plains Publications, a relatively new firm out of Winnipeg.
Their books are all beautiful and they give the impression that they really care about their product.

Relish is pleased to have worked with Great Plains for over 8 years.
